ALAG events for Cityread London April 2012

Brent Libraries Arts & Heritage

On Thursday 5th April 2012 at Ealing Road Library Gulshan Iqbal, Chair of ALAG read Oliver Twist in Urdu. Twenty two people attended and enjoyed the story and discussed the similarities in society now and in Charles Dickens’ time. There was alot of enthusiam for the story and particularly that young people were able to hear it in Urdu.

Hounslow Libraries

Customers were given the opportunity to read and discuss Oliver Twist in Hindi and Panjabi. The reading group which met at Hounslow Library on 4th April was well attended and a lively discussion was held as those present related to Oliver’s experiences and likened them to their own when they first came to England and the hardships that had to be overcome.
